| Classification Penicillins Indications Resp tract, GUT, skin & soft tissue infections, emergency & high-risk infections pending bacteriology; mixed infections, infections in premature babies & neonates. Dosage Adult Cap/Syr/Inj 500 mg-1 g 4-6 hrly. IV infusion Severe infections Up to 6 g. Childn 2-10 yr1/2 adult dose, 1 mth-2 yr 1/4 adult dose. Severe infections May increase dose. Contraindications Infectious monoucleosis. Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Use in the eye either subconjunctivally or locally. Precautions Babies born to mothers hypersensitive to penicillins. Pregnancy, lactation. Adverse Reactions Skin rashes, GI disturbances. Interactions Probenecid prolongs blood levels of ampicillin. |
