| Classification Penicillins Indications Listed in Dosage. Dosage Oral Resp Tract, ENT, GUT, skin & soft tissue infections Adult 250 mg-1 g 6 hrly. Gonorrhea 3 g as single oral dose w/ 1 g probenecid. Enteric fever & other GIT infections 1-2 g 6 hrly. Childn 2-10 yr 125-250 mg 6 hrly, <2 yr 62.5-125 mg 6 hrly. Alternatively, dosage may be based on 25-50 mg/kg/day. Inj 250-500 mg IM 4-6 hrly. 500 mg-1 g IV 4-6 hrly. Max adult dose: 400 mg/kg/day. In severe infections, dosage may be increased. Contraindications Hypersenditivity to penicillins. Infectious mononucleosis. Precautions Renal impairment. Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Neonates & premature infants. Pregnancy, lactation. Adverse Reactions GI upsets, indigestion, occasional rashes. Interactions Prolonged blood levels by probenecid. |
